Die Irisch-Republikanische Armee ist eine radikalnationalistische Untergrundorganisation, die die Angliederung von Nordirland an die Republik Irland zu erreichen versucht. Die IRA wurde 1919 gegründet und kämpfte für die Unabhängigkeit Irlands von Großbritannien. Nach der Gründung des irischen Freistaats spaltete sich die Organisation; ein Teil trat der regulären irischen Amee bei, ein anderer kämpfte als IRA illegal weiter.
